NMS Legacy Salon: Mark Guerrero

Join us for a creative, inspiring, and insightful event featuring Mark Guerrero. As the son of Chicano musical legend Lalo Guerrero, and an influential musician in his own rite, Mark’s musical legacy has spanned decades, when he first started playing in bands at age 12. This is a great event for everyone interested in the rock and roll history and the East LA Sound. This is also a great co,panion piece for the upcoming exhibit at La Plaza de Cultura y artes, A Great Day in East LA: Celebrando the Eastside Sound. This Program is brought to you in partnership with the Boyle Heights Historical Society.

Bio:

Mark Guerrero began playing in rock & roll bands at age 12.  He led the popular East Los Angeles band Mark & the Escorts, who recorded two singles for GNP Crescendo Records.  His first record “Get Your Baby” has been on many compilation albums and appeared in the movie “Logan Lucky” in 2018.  Mark has also recorded as a solo artist for Ode Records (produced by rock & roll hall of famer Lou Adler), Capitol Records, and with his group Tango, for A&M Records.  His songs have been recorded by artists such as Herb Alpert, Trini Lopez, Chan Romero, and his late father, Lalo Guerrero, known as the “Father of Chicano music.”  Mark’s recording and lyric manuscript of his song “I’m Brown” was featured in the Grammy Museum in 2008 and 2022, in the exhibit “Songs of Conscience, Sounds of Freedom.”  In addition to his own concerts, Mark has performed with Redbone, Eric Burdon, Los Lobos, El Chicano, Tierra, Lalo Guerrero, Cannibal & the Headhunters Band, and many others.  He has performed in venues such as the Cavern in Liverpool, England, Cite de la Musique in Paris, France, and the Roxy Theater and Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood.  As a Chicano and East L.A. music historian, Mark has written over a hundred articles, hosts a website, radio podcast (“Chicano Music Chronicles”), YouTube Zoom show (“East L.A. Music Stories”), and been a guest on radio and television programs, consulted for museums, and lectured at universities.

This event will also launch our monthly Salon Series to make music, connect resources, and celebrate community throughout the year!
