“Since I can remember I have always had music around me in some way, so much so that my memories seem to have a soundtrack to them. This playlist is a selection of music from various genres which I have tried to organize in such a way to give you a sample of the music I grew up listening to: a sonic guide beginning from my earliest years through to my youth. You may notice a lack of Classical music, and this is a conscious choice on my part, to show my students that though our studies are rooted in the classical sense this does not preclude an appreciation of other styles and genres.” -LL
Teacher Lenin was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. Raised by two working immigrant parents from Mexico, Lenin relished the opportunity to play and make music whenever possible. Growing up, he learned to play violin and guitar (sometimes to his parents’ chagrin). At LA Community College, Lugo enrolled in an introductory music theory class and fell in love with music all over again. Since then, he has been at work on the keyboard to both improve his skills and help others develop their own talents at NMS. Teacher Lenin strives to convey this resounding message to his students: “Anyone can learn to play and benefit from the study of music. All it takes it the dedication and drive to learn.”
“Desde que tengo uso de razón siempre he tenido música a mi alrededor de alguna manera, tanto que mis recuerdos parecen tener una banda sonora. Esta lista de reproducción es una selección de música de varios géneros que he tratado de organizar de tal manera que les brinde una muestra de la música que crecí escuchando: una guía sonora desde mis primeros años hasta mi juventud. Puede notar una falta de música clásica, y esta es una elección consciente de mi parte, para mostrarles a mis alumnos que, aunque nuestros estudios están arraigados en el sentido clásico, esto no impide la apreciación de otros estilos y géneros.” -LL
El maestro Lenin nació y creció en el área de Los Ángeles. Criado por dos padres inmigrantes trabajadores de México, Lenin disfrutaba la oportunidad de tocar y hacer música siempre que fuera posible. Al crecer, aprendió a tocar el violín y la guitarra (a veces para disgusto de sus padres). En LA Community College, Lugo se inscribió en una clase introductoria de teoría musical y se enamoró de la música nuevamente. Desde entonces, ha estado trabajando en el piano para mejorar sus habilidades y ayudar a otros a desarrollar sus propios talentos en NMS. El maestro Lenin se esfuerza por transmitir este mensaje rotundo a sus alumnos: “Cualquiera puede aprender a tocar y beneficiarse del estudio de la música. Todo lo que se necesita es la dedicación y el impulso para aprender.”
